Nicola Collins - SPCA Op Shop Volunteer On Monday 14th August I volunteered at one of my Local SPAC Op Shops in Auckland. These op shops raise vital funds for Auckland's animals. I helped sorted a variety of items for sale, helped clean and tidy up displays and even helped set up a display, which surprisingly was harder than I had thought. I was happy to have been able to help the store out and grateful for the opportunity to get out in my local community, thanks SAECOWilson.
Renee Taylor - Sir Peter Blake Trust MERC BBQ I took the opportunity through the SAECOWilson Community Day program to help the Sir Peter Blake Trust MERC with fundraising. MERC stands for Marine Education and Recreation Centre and was started to give outdoor education experiences to children that would not otherwise get to experience those types of activities (eg. Sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and archery). They are a not-for-profit organisation and require various forms or fundraising to continue, I was happy to be able to help them out in a very small way.
Gabriel Kearns - Mangere Bridge Waste Wise March 2017
We have a great community here in Mangere Bridge and my family and I volunteer for the various clean ups that our local group “The Friend’s of the Farm” organise. This event was part of the national sustainable coast lines event. My Son and I were allocated a section of foreshore to clean up, Amongst the items collected were a car tyre broken glass bear bottles (Sol must have been on special) and various tiny bits of plastic, These tiny pieces of plastic are a real problem for marine life as fish eat them but then cannot digest them. There was a documentary film maker from Germany in attendance I spoke to him briefly and they will use the completed documentary in Germany as part of their efforts to improve European coastlines. It was great to see members of the community coming together to make a difference. Every little bit helps.
